Allowing oneself to be a beginner
As a manager, it’s easy to feel safe as an advisor. The power behind coaching lies in getting someone to discover their own abilities and possibilities. During the third module of a management programme, participants were given the opportunity to practice coaching others. Many managers appreciate a clear tool that helps others create their own solutions to whatever they’re facing and also take responsibility for those decisions. The team demonstrated great interest in testing and growing. To a large extent, it was about allowing oneself to be a beginner in a new area, which can be as uncomfortable as it is exciting.
